ECE Sask Polytechnic Certificate of Achievement, ECE Sask Polytechnic Part-time Diploma Courses, ECE Sask Polytechnic Diploma

Discover how to support children as they learn through play. Learn about child development, child guidance, and how to create quality programming and learning environments. Learn how to create inviting and effective quality learning environments and develop holistic programs that include early literacy and language, creative arts, numeracy and play experiences. You’ll also learn about how children learn through play, child guidance, programming for infants, toddlers, pre-school and school-age children, administration, childcare regulations and more.

When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to pursue employment opportunities in a childcare centre, preschool, family day home or elementary school setting.

Carlton Trail College offers ECE programs and courses that will qualify you to apply for one of the following Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certification Levels from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education:

  1. The ECE Certificate of Achievement – Successful completion of 3 courses will qualify you to apply for Level I Certification. Level I Certification is the minimum required to work 65 hours or more per month in a childcare centre. These courses are offered on a part-time basis in the evenings. Plus, if you are a high school student while taking this program, you can earn dual credits.
  2. ECE Diploma Courses – Successful completion of a variety of courses will qualify you to apply for Level II Certification. These courses are offered on a part-time basis in the evenings.
  3. The ECE 2-year Diploma – Successful completion of the ECE Diploma Program will qualify you to apply for Level III Certification. Level III Certification is the minimum required to work as a childcare centre director. If you are interested in going further, you will be able to transfer some of your credits to the University of Regina’s Bachelor of Education degree program in Elementary Education. This program is offered on a full-time basis.

Admission Requirements

You'll need Grade 12 with English Language Arts A30 and English Language Arts B30 and meet the English Language Requirement..

(Note: The Certificate of Achievement is Open Access - meaning you do not need to meet any academic or English Language entrance requirements; however, if you wish to continue into additional Diploma Courses or the Diploma Program, you will need to meet the Grade 12 with ELA A30 and ELA B30 and English Language Requirement.s.)

You'll also need to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to entering required coursework with children. At the discretion of the practicum agency, you may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. If you do not complete the practicums, you will not graduate from the program. The cost of the Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is your responsibility.
