Industrial Mechanics Sask Polytechnic Applied Certificate
If you like working with machinery, enjoy solving mechanical problems, and are good with your hands, consider a career as an Industrial Mechanic.
Industrial Mechanics (also known as Maintenance Mechanics, Millwrights, or Machine Repairmen) install, repair, overhaul, and maintain stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Learn about drafting and blueprint reading, tool use, basic welding, fabrication and installation, pumps, mechanical components, preventative maintenance, safety and more. Practice in class, then develop your skills further during the work experience component at the end of the program!
When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to work on machines in a wide variety of commercial or industrial operations such as mines, mills, refineries, power generating plants, and wood, cereal, or meat processing plants. Demand for Industrial Mechanics is high across western Canada. Oil & gas and mining are big employers, but there’s also demand in manufacturing, milling, power generation and chemical plants.
Trade time and academic credit may be available for graduates who find employment in the trade and register as an apprentice.
This program is approximately 17 weeks long.
You’ll need Grade 12 with FDN MATH 20 or W&A MATH 20 or PRE CALC 20 and need to meet the English Language Requirement..
