Need help paying for college?

Student Loans and Grants

Loans are funding that a student is required to repay while a grant does not need to be repaid.

Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for assistance through Saskatchewan Student Aid.

Information is available through this program for full-time and part-time students, Indigenous students and students with disabilities.

Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Scholarships, bursaries and awards do not need to be repaid.

You may be eligible for a Carlton Trail College scholarship, bursary or award or for an award provided by one of many external organizations.

Carlton Trail College Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, as well as funds provided through Saskatchewan’s Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship Program, Carlton Trail College is able to offer a range of financial awards to our students.

Early Application Scholarships

  • Available to Carlton Trail College students applying into full-time, post-secondary programs of 12 weeks or longer.  Apply before the Early Application Deadline and your name will be entered to win a $1,000 Scholarship.
  • Practical Nursing Early Application Scholarship Deadline: April 30, 2026
  • Agriculture Sciences, Office Administration, Continuing Care Assistant, Primary Care Paramedic, Carpentry,  Industrial Mechanics, Plumbing and Pipefitting and Welding (Applied Certificate) Early Application Scholarship Deadline: May 15, 2025

The Flyer Electric Entrance Scholarship

  • Available to Carlton Trail College students in the Electrician Applied Certificate that starts in the Fall 2025.  Enrolled students will be entered into a draw for a $2,500 Flyer Electric Entrance Scholarship.

Application-Based Scholarships

  • Available to Carlton Trail College full-time students enrolled in accepted into full-time, post-secondary programs of 12 weeks or longer.
  • These scholarships are awarded based on need (financial), merit (community involvement, academic achievement, overcoming a personal circumstance, volunteer work, etc.) or a combination of need and merit.
  • The 2025 application period will open October 2025.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) – Indigenous Determination Award

  • Available to Adult Basic Education (ABE) students of Indigenous ancestry who are enrolled in Adult 10 and Adult 12 programs provided through Carlton Trail College.
  • Applicants must demonstrate perseverance and determination in overcoming barriers to and within the ABE Program.
  • The 2025 application is available here. 
  • The deadline to apply for this year’s award is Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:59 pm.

Carlton Trail College Emergency Financial Aid Bursary

Provincial Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Final Clinical Placement Bursary

  • The Ministry of Health’s Final Clinical Placement Bursary is offered to students in an eligible health discipline that requires the completion of a final clinical placement as part of training.

Paramedic Training Bursaries

  • Training bursaries are available to students and new graduates of paramedic programs who commit to joining Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship

  • The Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship will provide $750 per year, to a lifetime maximum of $3,000, to eligible Saskatchewan grade 12 graduates attending a Saskatchewan post-secondary institution.

SPRA Future Leaders Scholarship

  • Annual scholarships are provided to youth 18-30 years of age who pursue post-secondary education or training that supports the recreation industry in Saskatchewan.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

  • The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee scholarships are awarded to grade 12 students who will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall.

Student Lines of Credit or Bank Loans

A line of credit is a credit product that lets you borrow money repeatedly up to a pre-set limit. You can borrow money, pay it back and then borrow again, up to your credit limit.

A student line of credit is a product for students. It helps you pay for expenses related to post-secondary education, like tuition or books. You can also use it to help cover everyday expenses, like food and transportation.

A bank loan from your financial institution allows you to borrow an agreed-upon amount of money, up-front, to help pay for your education.

Registered Education Savings Plans and Related Benefits

A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is a long-term savings plan to help people save for a child’s education after high school, including trade schools, CEGEPs, colleges, universities, and apprenticeship programs.

An adult can also open an RESP for themselves.
