Beading with Purpose

Oct 06, 2023

With over 25 years of creative artistry under her belt, Maureen Thomas is an accomplished Indigenous artist hailing from the One Arrow First Nation, within the College’s east-central learning region. Whether drawing, wood-working or beading, Maureen’s work is always thoughtfully composed, quietly reflecting her personal identity and technical expertise.

To help celebrate the College’s 50th anniversary in a unique way, Maureen was commissioned to create a variety of limited-edition, hand-beaded keychains in Carlton Trail College’s colours. The keychains will be used as special 50th anniversary gifts and keepsake items.

With a family connection to the College, Maureen believes in lifelong learning, encouraging youth to be patient and to not give up when pursuing their goals.

Maureen’s work can be found at Tipi Fuel and Tourism Prince Albert, as well as at Handmade House in Saskatoon.
