Helping Companies and Communities Meet Employment Needs

Sep 05, 2023

In preparation for the delivery of three, Mining Essentials programs with Indigenous partners Fishing Lake First Nation, One Arrow First Nation and Touchwood Agency Tribal Council, Carlton Trail College staff met with Canada’s Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) to review program approaches, goals and resources to encourage participant success.

Mining Essentials is a pre-employment training program for Indigenous peoples who are interested in a career in mining. The program focuses on the essential and work readiness skills that the mining industry has validated and deemed necessary to gain entry-level employment in the mining sector.

The partnership approach between communities, employers and the educator adapts the program to the region and allows for the creation of mutually-beneficial outcomes.

Programs will be offered in Punnichy, One Arrow First Nation and Wadena over the College’s 2023-24 academic year.
