Essential Skills for the Workplace – Pathways to Community Support Worker

Overview

The Community Support Worker Program prepares students for meaningful careers supporting children, individuals, families, and communities in a variety of care settings. Through a combination of classroom learning, practical skill development, and industry-recognized certifications, participants gain the knowledge and confidence needed to provide safe, respectful, and client-centred care. Students will develop foundational personal care skills, learn developmentally appropriate child guidance techniques, and build strong communication skills for working effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams.

The program emphasizes professionalism, ethical responsibility, infection control, workplace safety, and culturally responsive caregiving. Additional training includes Transfer, Lift & Reposition (TLR), Professional Assault Response Training (PART), WHMIS, Naloxone Training, Service Best Training, Standard First Aid & CPR C, and basic computer skills for workplace readiness. Graduates will leave the program with the practical skills, safety certifications, and professional competencies required to pursue employment in community support, caregiving, and human service environments.

This program is open to members of Fishing Lake First Nation. Participants may be eligible for funding.
