Walker Wood Foundation Provides Funding for New Emergency Bursary Program
November 2, 2020 – Carlton Trail College students will receive financial aid support thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Walker Wood Foundation to establish an emergency bursary fund to help students during the COVID-19 crisis. This contribution was then matched through the provincial government’s emergency bursary fund, making $10,000 available for Carlton Trail College students enrolled in eligible programs during the 2020-2021 academic year.
“We recognize that the longer the pandemic goes on, students will continue to face increased economic challenges as they undertake post-secondary studies,” said Walker Wood Foundation President, Susan Wood.
The Walker Wood Foundation and Carlton Trail College enjoy a long-standing relationship. Since 2015, the Foundation has contributed a total of $24,000 to the College’s Student Awards program. These funds have been matched by the provincial government’s Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program, allowing for $48,000 in scholarships in the Foundation’s name to be presented to deserving students.
The Walker Wood Foundation’s Emergency Financial Aid Bursary was created this fall. The Foundation’s support of this bursary fund is in addition to its ongoing support of the College’s Student Awards Program.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Walker Wood Foundation who helped make this happen,” said Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross, Carlton Trail College President and CEO, “and are working to assist as many students as possible. This real-time support is invaluable in helping individuals remain healthy, safe and engaged in their program.”
Eligible students may receive emergency funds to assist with urgent costs for day-to-day living expenses such as food and basic essentials.
The Walker Wood Foundation currently gives awards to numerous universities and colleges across Canada.
Individuals interested in supporting student achievement are encouraged to contact the College directly at (306) 682-6853 to make a gift to Carlton Trail College’s student awards program.
